Jan Tuin, our Chorus Director, is a native of Colorado. He began teaching in California in 1970 then taught in Oregon for nine years before moving back to Colorado where he taught in the Paonia Schools for 27 years.

During that time, his choirs consistently received Superior ratings at both CHSAA large group festivals and Colorado West Music Performance Festivals. He became very involved with Colorado Music Educators Association and served on the board of that organization then served for 13 years on the Colorado All State Choir board. He continues to serve Colorado All State Choir as an audition judge.

Jan began singing very early in life with his Dad, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters in their family band. After hearing an A Cappella choir at a church when in the seventh grade, he knew he wanted to sing in that group some day. He eventually successfully auditioned for that group and that was one of the factors that solidified his calling to become a choral music educator.

Jan is a member of the American Choral Directors association and the National Association of Music Educators . He has a Bachelors degree from Point Loma Nazarene University and a Masters degree from Lesley College. He is married to Sandy and they have two children and 4 grandchildren.
