Stephanie took her first violin lesson in 1997 at age 5 from former VSA Concertmaster Lu Vorys and has loved music ever since.
In 1998, Stephanie joined what would become the Valley Youth Orchestra, playing chamber music in a dirt-floor cabin in Paonia. She consistently performed with the VYO and VSA until graduating from high school in 2010, after which she obtained two bachelors degrees, one in music and one in anthropology, from the University of Colorado Boulder. In 2019, she also obtained a masters in arts administration from Florida State University, where she studied under internationally-recognized conductor André Thomas and Met Opera Soprano Marcy Stonikas.
Her entire family regularly sings together, and her father and brother both play cello in the VSA Orchestra.Among other adventures, Stephanie has founded the North Fork Community Choir, published original research on the acoustics of kivas at Mesa Verde National Park, worked at a humane society on Maui, and ran lighting and sound at the Sitka Music Festival in Alaska. She has served on three nonprofit boards, founded four organizations, and worked with more than a dozen nonprofits in positions ranging from intern to executive director.
Currently, Stephanie is the Program Manager for Performing and Literary Arts in Crested Butte, CO. She also teaches the strings program at Western Colorado University, directs the North Fork Community Choir, and maintains a small studio of string and piano students.When not working or making music with family, Stephanie can be found kayaking down the Gunnison, exploring new flavors in the kitchen, or brushing up on her Hawaiian.
