I treasure my time in the VSA chorus--all 17 years. I met my best friend there and many other dear friends. It has been a joy!

Charlotte has always had a love of music. She took piano lessons as a child but realized she liked to sing more. While she had a few voice lessons, singing in choirs truly developed her talent—and it helped that she was raised in a church that sang four-part harmony.

She says her primary claim-to-fame is that she is the mother of daughter, Bethany Ward (VSA Chorus Conductor from 2008-2010), and son, Jonathan Heath (who has acted in Magic Circle productions). In fact, Charlotte has been a Magic Circle Player in two productions herself.

She moved to Montrose because of her daughter. After vacationing here, Bethany fell in love with the mountains and moved to Montrose after college, taking a job as a music teacher. Charlotte and her husband made the move after retiring early from jobs with schools in Texas. She enjoys having her family close by, including grandson, Colton, and son-in-law, Jason. “I wasn't born here, but I got here as soon as I could! I love living in Montrose.”

Charlotte joined Bethany in the VSA Chorus in 2006 and sang a duet that year from Vivaldi’s Gloria. The VSA wasn’t Charlotte’s first experience with singing in a choir: she has sung in various groups, from college choirs to the Houston Symphony Chorus, for nearly 50 years.

Two interesting things about Charlotte: she is a breast cancer survivor, and some of her favorite music are requiems.
