I grew up on my family’s farm in Nebraska and have always been interested in music, thanks to my parents. As a child, I sang with my dad, in school and church choirs, for weddings, and have always loved every minute of it! I wanted to play the piano and, amazingly for a rural area, our next-door neighbor gave lessons! And so, my journey with classical music began.
After high school, I attended the University of Nebraska, studying business science and completed my degree at Louisiana State University, graduating magna cum laude. My accounting career began with Peat Marwick Mitchell, and a few years later, I started my own CPA firm. That was 40 years ago, and I’m set to retire in December 2024.
I have performed various accounting functions, serving individuals, corporations, and partnerships of all types and sizes, along with pro bono work for nonprofit organizations—definitely a long way from the farm!
I planned to continue assisting nonprofit entities in retirement, so when the opportunity arose to become the VSA Board Treasurer, I gladly accepted. I hope my skills and leadership can help further the VSA’s goals. I am inspired by the VSA regional musicians and vocalists who volunteer to bring the gift of classical music in its various forms to the Western Slope.
